Age of exploration
Background
In the late 1400s, the New World and the Old World were on a collision course that would drastically alter the course of history. As European explorers arrived and settled in the Americas, they would bring with them new foods, beliefs, customs, and traditions that were previously unseen in this part of the world. At the same time, the enslavement of Africans, the introduction of new diseases, and the subjugation of the native population highlights some of the horrors associated with the age of exploration.
Dates Studied: Approximately 1492 - 1700
